Panagiotis Dimitrakopoulos

Dr. Panagiotis Dimitrakopoulos is a Doctor of the School of Environment at the University of the Aegean, with postdoctoral studies at the University of Zurich (fellowship: European Science Foundation). He was elected Assistant Professor in 2004 in the Department of Environment, Associate Professor in 2011, and Professor in 2018.

He served as Honorary Visiting Senior Fellow at Anglia Ruskin University from 2019 to 2022). His research focuses on the relationship between plant diversity and ecosystem function, the ecology of serpentine soils, biodiversity conservation and management, and protected areas.

He served as the President of the Hellenic Ecological Society from 2012 to 2014 and a member of the 'Nature 2000' Committee from 2010 to 2020. He has participated in the Group of Specialists on the European Diploma for Protected Areas of the Council of Europe as a representative of Greece from 2020 to 2023. He has participated in 20 national and international research programs. He is the Section Editor-in-Chief of Ecology in the journal Biology (Basel), a board member of six interdisciplinary journals, and a reviewer for over 60 journals.

He has published over 90 articles in international journals, is a co-author of the book 'Conservation Biology,' and has edited and translated textbooks in Ecology, Environmental Science, Biostatistics, and Functional Ecology.

Mr. Dimitrakopoulos is involved in monitoring the impact of soil amendments on the understory of olive groves.
